Tentative General Itinerary - NOTE: items in Red are changes from our original plan
Friday: Event Leaders will arrive at camp approx 1:00-2:00 pm to set up group supplies, and greet families who are coming out Friday (show you to your sleeping quarters, where to park, etc) / Possible hike / Dinner will be served approx 6:00 followed by evening Campfire. Late arrivals will be shown their quarters upon arrival (please let us know what time you plan to arrive)
Saturday: In-camp breakfast / stop #1 Rainbow Basin (Geology of area; rock collecting; hike the canyon) Note: Road to Rainbow Basin from Shroeder Ranch is a dirt road, no RV's or Trailers, family vehicles (even non-4 wheel drive) should be fine / On the road (in-camp) lunch (at Rainbow Basin or Calico Mountain) / Stop #2 Calico Mountain (Geology stop) & Calico Ghost Town -or- Civil War Reenactment event (your choice, probably not enough time for both) / Possible dinner out in or near Calico (This is a change from in-camp dinner*) TBD soon / Possible after dark Calico Ghost Tour, optional , See info below / possible campfire (Depends on time of Ghost tour). We will arrive at Calico around noon or later for those driving out after we leave the Ranch on Saturday that want to meet up with us.
Sunday: In camp breakfast / stop #1 Harvard Rd (ancient Lake Manix Mud Deposits) / stop #2 Afton Canyon (Lake Manix shore line and catastrophic spillway) / stop #3 Cinder Cone National Landmark (Kelbaker Rd)? 'In-camp' lunch on the volcano/ stop #4 Kelso Sand Dunes / Dinner in Baker (change from In-camp dinner*) / possible campfire. FYI - For those coming out on Sunday or for just 1 day TBD, you may have a harder time of catching up with the groups because of the multiple stops.
Monday: In camp breakfast / break camp to start home/ Possible optional geology stops at San Andreas fault/ Mojave River (stops may depend on traffic and how late we get on the road)
A complete itinerary with all our stops, and approx times to come via email ASAP. All geology stops (complete with diagrams and explanations), maps and info on BSA and Webelo requirements will be in the 1 per family Geology guide will be given to those who sign up. Additional guides will be $3 each.
*Once we are done planning, I will let you know about Saturday Dinner. Cost of additional dinner's out will be your responsibility. Saturday dinner is TBD (In-camp or out). Refund will be made for either dinner if you already paid -or- it can be applies to any outstanding trip expense or to added activities such as Calico after dark ghost tours.
The cost will be (depending on what you choose to participate in):
$5 per family group (for copies of the Geology guides, maps, and other resources) - pre-paid
$4 per person, per night you stay at the Schroeder Ranch (age 3 and under no charge). This will be given directly to the Schroeder's to help maintain the property. -pre-paid.
$4 per person, per meal (2 and under no charge). We will be preparing 'in-camp' meals as a group (FYI - on the road meals are considered in-camp meals) -or- you can bring your own food and cooking supplies. The meal cost include paper products, ice, etc. Food money is non-refundable once we shop for the food ( a few day prior to the trip) A menu will be send ASAP. This includes some snacks and some water (for meals - BYO water to refill water bottles)- Pre-paid
Calico Ghost town is $8 adults; $5 youth 6-15; under 5 free for general admission - this will be paid to calico at time of attendance (not pre-paid) NOTE: IF we get a Youth tour the cost will be $4 per person!
Civil War reenactment (if you attend) is $10 adults; $6 age 6-15; under 5 free (not sure yet if this covers Calco ghost town too - but will find out) - this will be paid to the Civil war event at time of attendance (not pre-paid)
Calico attractions (optional) Ghost Tours: $12 ages 11 and over; $6 ages 5-10; uner 4 free / Calico Odessa Railway $4 ages 11 and up; $2 ages 5-10; 4 and under free.
Other meals on the way up and back are not covered with in-camp meals - This now includes the 2 dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
gasoline for your vehicle is your expense.

Which nights each person is camping
If you are planning to purchase camp meals (or cook your own)
How many of each of the meals you plan to order (Friday dinner: Saturday Breakfast, Saturday Lunch, Saturday Dinner TBD: Sunday Breakfast, Sunday Lunch: Monday Breakfast) Sunday Dinner will no longer be an In-camp meal
if you are planning to bring you own tent or RV or if you need sleeping accommodations
If we can get a Ghost Tour - how many in your group will want to attend? If we have a group of 10 or more they will do a private tour. Space is limited on Saturday night, but they would do a special private tour on Friday or Sunday, and these are days they usually don't do tours. LET ME KNOW RIGHT AWAY IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP FOR THE GHOST TOUR!!! The sooner we get back to them, the better chance we have to get a tour.
Payment for the 'Pre-paid' portion of expenses is due ASAP. It is OK to pay for food by 2/14 so I have all the money in before I s hop.
This will be a Family event (there are not enough BSA or Girl Scout leaders attending to make this a Troop event (Cubs never camp without a parent). This mean each Scout must be with at least 1 parent / family adult -or- you can make arrangements with anther attending scout family to take responsibility for your Scout.

You can attend all 4 days or join us for just 3 on that long weekend to learn about the Geology of the area from our own Geologist / Geology MB Counselor.
Bunk house, tent or RV camping.
